The Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College was renamed and re-imagined as the Buckinghamshire New University under the leadership of Vice Chancellor, Professor Ruth Farwell.

The Buckinghamshire New University ranking is not currently recorded on the University Review best UK university list, however it is ranked 93rd best in the country by the Independent newspaper. Similarly ranked colleges include The Open University, University of Worcester, and the University of Bradford.

Established in 1893 when it was known by then as a school for arts and sciences, it was handed down to different leaderships and changed until it was then granted university status in 2007. As one of the top universities within the area, in a matter of a few years it has become known as one of the most rapidly growing universities locally where students all over the nation flocked by its walls as they seek membership and guidance.

The reason of its growing attendance is its offers of some of the rarest courses in the nation. Fields such as the Airline and Airport Management, Music Management, Video Production, Advertising were on the menu. Even courses such as Furniture Design and Restoration and Textile Management can also be found in its wide variety of institutions.

Another reason why students obviously loved the Buckinghamshire New University is by its staff dedication in its students. By using several strategies, it meets its goal to provide each individual student and collective groups with balanced experiences in education, social activities and government. These strategies include: partnership working between employees and students; provides economic, cultural and social activities; commitment in offering wide-view opportunities to all qualified students notwithstanding their financial statuses and backgrounds; student groups such as the Big Deal (a student Union); and a high percentage of students being employed in their fields of choice after graduation.

As mentioned above, its widely known student union – the Big Deal makes the Buckinghamshire New University an exciting experience for students of all ages. It offers students access to free events, sports, recreational activities. The union’s leadership core comes from the students themselves where they were voted by the student body. The staff of the Big Deal is also comprised of students were they are considered as employees therefore being paid by the University itself.
