Ecole Polytechnique Information
Located about 15 miles from Paris in Palaiseau, the École polytechnique is rated as one of France’s best universities for technological subjects. It is actually ran by the French ministry of defence, but is a public institution dedicated to the high level teaching of scientific, industrial and economic subjects to elite of French students. The École Polytechnique ranking is the joint 14th best university in France, and 141st in the world. Similarly rated French colleges include Montpellier 2 University, Université Paris-Dauphine, École supérieure de physique et de chimie industrielles de la ville de Paris, and University of Bordeaux 1.
In all the École Polytechnique has ten different departments and twenty one different laboratories on a large campus covering around 445 acres. The school employs and teaches around 4200 people.
Some of the subjects taught at the school include the subjects of chemistry, computer science, economics, mathematics and physics. Teaching at the École varies from that of traditional universities, and it ids often the case that the students spend a large part of the first year in military training, and are awarded a masters degree at the end of the third year.
The École Polytechnique is proud of its heritage and on special occasions such as Bastille Day, the students march down the Champs Élysées in dress uniforms from the time of the schools founding.
