Formerly the Grenoble I University, Joseph Fourier University (UJF) is one of the leading scientific universities in France. The institution can trace it’s roots back to the year 1811 when Joseph Fourier established a scientific institute in Grenoble within the Rhône-Alpes region of France; a beautiful region within sight of the Alps. The Joseph Fourier University ranking is the joint 7th best university in France, and in the 326 to 346 range in the world. Similarly rated French colleges include University of Paris Diderot, University of Strasbourg, Paris Descartes University, and Claude Bernard University.
Since establishment the university has grown in size and status and now accommodates over 18,000 students at the undergraduate level.

It is especially renown for it’s research excellence and has over fifty laboratories that are dedicated to scientific research. It strives to have a good relationship with the world of business and promotes the findings of it’s scientific research through a private company known as Floralis. This company has been set up with the specific goal of fostering close university and industry relations and has led to the creation of over thirty businesses within the last 15 years. Another major impact of the creation of Floralis is that it has allowed the university to place over 2,000 of it’s students into industrial internship that will go a long way in the development of students for the transition to the workforce.
