University of Auckland Information
Since its creation in 1883 the University of Auckland (Te Whare Wānanga o Tāmaki Makaurau)has grown in size to cater for nearly 40,000 students.
It is one of the highest ranked universities in the pacific region and is considered to be the 50th best university in the world by the times. Today the university is watched over by the chancellor Hugh Fletcher.
In total the university of Auckland has eight major faculties these cover the following major subject areas: Arts; Science; Business and Economics; Education; Creative Arts and Industries; Law; Engineering; Medicine and Health; and Theology.
Some of the famous people who have passed through the gates of the university of Auckland over the years include prime ministers Helen Clark and David Lange; sports stars such as Michael Jones (Rugby) and Russell Coutts (Yachting); and the chemist William Sage Rapson.
