Although ranked lowly by the Chinese Jiaotong university in its rankings the University of Hong Kong (HKU – 香港大學) is rated as the 18th best university in the world by the Times of London, and the 69th best in the world by Newsweek in their rankings.
Founded in its present form in 1911 the Hing Kong University can trace its roots back to 1887 when the College of Medicine was established in the then British territory of Hong Kong by a group of London missionaries.
The University of Hong Kong ranking is number 16 in Asia in the University Review List. Similarly ranked colleges include University of Tsukuba, HKUST, KAIST, and Peking University.
Other Good colleges in Hong Kong include the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and City University of Hong Kong.
University of Hong Kong is split into ten different faculties, these cater for the study of the following topic areas: Architecture; Arts; Business and Economics; Dentistry; Education; Engineering; Law; Medicine; Science; and Social Science.
Over the years the University of Hong Kong has gained a rich list of alumni and faculty including Sun Yat-Sen the founder of Taiwan; Journalists Ching Cheong; Film Director Clara Law; MAthmatician Yum Tong Siu; and Singers Kay Tse and Samuel Hui.
