The University of Rome Tor Vergata or Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, is a public university based in Rome, Italy. It is considered as one of the country’s largest research based institutions.
It is well known for its scientific studies and is titled as an international center for research and education. During the past years, the activity of technology transfer as well as the cooperation with other private and public organizations in various fields has seen the institution gain an increasingly important role. The University of Rome Tor Vergata’s hospital is considered as its flagship and is located in a 600-hectares-campus. It is composed of therapeutic and diagnostic vanguard structures and has become a reference model for both international and national levels.
The university was established in 1981 aiming to provide high quality education for students in preparation for the 21st century needs.
It can be easily reached by bus as it is found in the South-Eastern suburb of Rome. The university is an academic establishment that combines a tradition of liberal arts with stress on the career orientation in the field of Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, and Economics. It occupies a huge park area outside the Grande Raccordo Anulare highway connection, located in the eastern sector of the city.
The University of Rome Tor Vergata is divided into six schools namely: School of Law, School of Engineering, School of Economics, School of Science, School of Medicine and Surgery, and School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
Some of its scholars include Lucio Russo, an Italian physicist, mathematician and historian of science, who teaches at the university’s Mathematics Department of the Science College; and Mario Perniola, an internationally acclaimed Italian philosopher, professor of Aesthetics and author.
