Gunma University Information
Gunma university was brought about by the integration of four Japanese colleges; these being the Gunma normal school; Gunma youth national school, Kiryu technical college and the Maebashi college of medical science. Although the integration of these institutes to form the Gunma university took place in 1949, the oldest of these institutions can trace its roots back to 1873; when the Gunma normal school was created in order to train teachers. Nowadays the Gunma university is overseen by president Mamoru Suzuki and it is one of Japans national universities.
Gunma university has four major faculties: two of these, the faculty of education and the faculty of social and information studies are located on the Aramaki campus.
The Showa campus is home to the faculty of medicine; and the Kiryu campus is home to the faculty of engineering.
In addition to these four faculties Gunma university also has four graduate schools, each of which covers the same topic areas of the aforementioned faculties.
