Universidade Estadual de Campinas Information
The University Estadual de Campinas is usually referred to as UNICAMP and is one of the leading research universities in Brazil.
Since its formation in the nineteen sixties it has grown to encompass three different campuses and it is home to around 31,000 students; Unicamp is looked after by the rector José Tadeu Jorge.
UNICAMP ranks as the second best university in Latin America and is strong in many subject areas including medicine (it has its own hospital); Sciences, Computing; Engineering; Arts; Languages; Business; and History.
Over the years many great people have studied and researched at the university some of the famous alumni include the physicists Fritz Köberle, César Lattes and Marcelo Damy; the writer Rubem Alves; and the economist José Serra.
