The University of Pavia, also known as Università degli Studi di Pavia or simply UNIPV, is a state-supported university in Italy, which was established in 1361.
The universities is one of Europe’s oldest universities. It began as a Pavian higher education institution focusing on law studies, which was founded in 825. Later on, it was renamed the University of the Duchy, before it became known as the University of Pavia.
Through the years, the university evolved as an institution. Through public endowments, the university established additional facilities. Also, it has collaborated with other higher learning institutions like the IUSS, which together with Pavia, comprise the Pavia University System. Today, aside from its regular educational offerings, the university is also known as a Research University with 35 libraries and several laboratories, clinics and centres.
]The university of Pavia is divided into nine faculties offering degrees in different disciplines. These include the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Politics, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Musicology, and the Faculty of Physical, Natural and Mathematical Sciences, which grants degrees in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Natural Sciences and Physics.
The University of Pavia also has several postgraduate offerings, specialization course work and 20 masters level studies. The university has a prestigious international exchange program for both students and teachers. It has 350 bilateral agreements among universities in Coimbra, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, the USA and several countries in Asia like Japan and China among others. The university also has 104 degree courses spread out over its 15 colleges and 49 departments.
